Ashes to Ashes
Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust—when being cremated an urn is a must! Urns
were vessels to carry the body back to the earth—literally through
cremation or figuratively on a gravestone. From the gravestone of Mrs.
Mary Richards, Relict of Mr. Edward Richards who died January 16,1827,
Aet 82. Located in East Parish Burial Ground, Newton Centre,
Massachusetts.

Barrington Angel
A face most angelic graces the gravestone of Mrs. Hannah Bicknell, the
late wife of Joshua Bicknell, Esquire. The marker was erected for her
and her infant child who departed this life August 11, 1765. She was in
the 39th Year of her Age. The name and age of her infant are not
disclosed, which may elude to a tragic tale of a mother and child lost
in childbirth. We will never know for sure, but the woman-child face
and imposingly large wings may give us a clue. They are buried together
in Barrington Historic Cemetery #3 in Barrington, Rhode Island.

Elder's Urn
This gorgeous creature was taken from the gravestone of Mrs. Comfort
Ballou, Relict of Levi Ballou, Esq. She departed this life October 28,
1826. In the 81st year of her age. Her epitaph reads: Her body lies
within the grave - No earthly comforts more to have - Her spirit rose
to realms above - Encircled in eternal love. Mrs. Ballou and her
gravestone lie eternally in Elder Ballou Historic Cemetery #27 in
Cumberland, Rhode Island. Her gravestone is signed by "Tingley".

Eternal Time
This lovely resides in the Mill Street Cemetery, Lunenberg, MA. It is
from the gravestone of Doctor Thomas Gowing, who left this life March
22, 1800 at the early age of 63 years. Tempus Fugit!

Universal Freemason
The sun, moon, five pointed star and the all seeing eye of God are all
symbols of the free and accepted masons fraternal order. These signs
decorated major John Farrar's gravestone, who was a 13th degree mason.
He died January 1, 15, 1793. Age 52. Mountain View Cemetery,
Shrewsbury, MA. Four castings mounted on heavy plank from a 200 year
old farmhouse.

Seven Stars of Bolton
Seven little stars and a crescent moon rise on the beginning of a new afterlife for Sophia Nurse, daughter of Mr. Jona and Mrs. Ruth Nurse. She quickly left this life after three brief years on July 19, 1793 and resides eternally in Old South Cemetery in Bolton, Massachusetts.
